The annual big bash devoted to the winners of the Helen
Hayes Awards was held at the National Building Museum on Monday, April 21.
Winners in 27 categories were announced. Almost everyone in the Washington, Maryland
and D.C. theatre community attended the black tie gala. Here are just a few of
the winners: Outstanding Music Director: Jon Kalbfleisch at Signature
for “Gypsy”; Lead Actress: Rachel York, “Anything Goes,” The Kennedy
Center; Lead Actor, Resident Musical, James Gardiner, “The Last Five
Years,” Signature; Resident Play, “Stupid F__king Bird,” Woolly Mammoth.
